In an attempt to increase our recreational numbers past Rookie, we are going to experiment with a new way of assigning players to teams. We'll still have a skills assessment and draft, but the rules are different. A copy of the OFFICIAL TEAM FORMATION RULES for the Minor and Major Divisions can be found under the DOCUMENTS Quick Link on the homepage. For Babe Ruth, we're brainstorming what will work best to increase our numbers in this division while keeping the gameplay competitive.
For Tee Ball and Rookie, we've always allowed coach requests and friend requests. But keep in mind, the maximum number of kids allowed on a Tee Ball team is nine, and the maximum on a AA Rookie team is 10. The maximum on a AAA Rookie team is 12. In some situations, we can add one kid to a Tee Ball and AA Rookie team, but never past 12 for AAA.
The easiest way to get friends together on Tee Ball and Rookie teams is to have a parent volunteer to coach, and then have friends request that coach when registering. First come first serve, so register early before all the teams have coach volunteers. Coaches are subject to a background check.
For Minor and Major this year, we are going to do something similar, but put stipulations on who coaches can add to their teams prior to the skills assessment and draft. Please read the Official Rules document, but essentially the easiest way to get a group of friends together is to have a parent volunteer to coach and for friends to request that coach. The goal of the new Team Formation Rules is not for a coach to "stack" their team, but instead to help the League recruit more kids to register and play recreational baseball at Mueller Park. Our numbers always drop once we move to the skills assessment and draft divisions. We are thinking there are kids out there that would play baseball if they were with their friends and a coach/parent that they knew and trusted.
If you are a parent interested in coaching, please register online at www.muellerparkbaseball.org to coach, and then we'll reach out to you to help form your team. The success of our League is highly dependent on the quality of coaches we get to volunteer. Please only volunteer if you have the time to dedicate to the success of Mueller Park Baseball. We encourage all coaches to set aside times in which they can practice as a team. This season, all teams will only play one game per week, so there should be time to hold at least one practice per week as well. Of course, finding a place to practice is difficult in the Spring, as nearly every patch of public grass is being used throughout the area.
Spring 2020 Registration is now open, and will run until March 6, 2020, but we are expecting several divisions to fill-up fast, so register early.
American League vs National League
Please note, there are American League Divisions and National League Divisions.
The American League is the traditional recreational divisions, in which you sign your child up and they are assigned a team for the season. All are welcome to play in the American League.
- Tee Ball: $42.00 for 8 Games, on Monday Evenings and Saturday Mornings
- AA Rookie: $52.00 for 8 Games
- AAA Rookie: $65.00 for 8 Games and Single-Loss Elimination Tournament
- Minors: $78.00 for 9 Games and Single-Loss Elimination Tournament
- Majors: $85.00 for 9 Games and Single-Loss Elimation Tournament
- Babe Ruth: $88.00 for 9 Games and Single-Loss Elimination Tournament
The National League is for teams that have already been formed prior to registration. These teams will play each other during the season and not the American League teams. Unless notified by your coach to sign up in the National League, please do not register to play in the National League.
American League Divisions (All are Welcome to Play)
Tee Ball - 3 Yrs to 6 Yrs (Only six year olds that are new to baseball should play tee ball).
AA Rookie - 5 Yrs to 7 Yrs (This is the bridge between Tee Ball and AAA Rookie Machine Pitch. For those that have had their fill of tee ball but are not quite old enough to play AAA Rookie, this division is for you. This division is also for some seven year olds who are new to baseball and want to start in a lower division).
AAA Rookie - 6 Yrs to 8 Yrs (Only advanced six year olds should play AAA Rookie. This is a Machine Pitch division with a post season tournament).
Minors - 9 Yrs to 10 Yrs (Kids first begin pitching in this division).
Majors - 11 Yrs to 12 Yrs (This division plays on the Major Field, and lead-offs are allowed).
Babe Ruth - 13 Yrs to 15 Yrs (This division plays on the Babe Ruth Field, having the same dimensions as High School and the MLB).
High School 16-18U Tryouts - We are looking to create one or two teams from Mueller Park of High School aged players to play in either the Davis County League or the Babe Ruth League. This is for those who did not make their high school teams or did not try out. Davis County games would be at home and in Layton and Farmington. Babe Ruth games would be at home and in Taylorsville, Murray, and Draper. It's possible we join both leagues if scheduling works out.
Xtra League Tryouts
If you are registering your child to play in the American League, you can also register to tryout for an Xtra League team. We'll have a 3rd Grade team, 4th Grade team, 5th Grade team, and 6th Grade team. If your child makes one of these teams, there will be an additional cost. These teams will play on Monday nights in addition to their recreational games later in the week. On Monday nights, they'll play teams from Legacy (West Bountiful), Centerville, and Farmington. We need volunteer coaches for these teams.
